The depth varies over the face, the deepest depth is usually 2mm, this is used on the thicker areas of the face such as the cheeks and jowls. A minimum depth of 0.6mm is normally required to reach the dermis.

Question Do I need numbing cream?

Answer For cosmetic microneedling (0.3mm or less) numbing cream is probably not required however it does make microneedling a more comfortable experience. I would always recommend numbing cream for medical microneedling. It is essential to cause trauma in the dermis when medical microneedling, which does cause some pain although everyones pain threshold is different.
